Why You Shouldn’t Get an Oversized AC
If you live anywhere in Florida or one of the many other warm-weather states then you will certainly know the importance of having a quality centralized air conditioning system installed in your home. When a homeowner starts shopping around for a new air conditioning system for their home it is very tempting to start looking for a larger unit than is necessary.
Getting an extra large AC system may seem like a good idea, but it can actually turn out working against you. It is very important that the system that you install and purchase has been sized correctly for your home of office. Here are a few reasons that you should consider.
Maintain the Proper Temperature
A central air conditioning unit performs two functions in your home. First the AC unit will cool your home and secondly it removes the excess moisture and humidity from the air. Removing the humidity is a critical roles of cooling the air in your home. The AC unit needs to run for a while before it starts lowering the humidity.
If the system that you installed is too large then it will only run for a short while until it shuts off because the air in your home has reached the proper temperature. The problem is that the unit has not been able to run long enough to properly collect the humidity from the air. So while the air is cooler it is still very humid.
Longevity of the AC
Each time the air conditioner turns on or off it puts wear and tear on the unit. The more often your system turns on and off the sooner if will wear out. If your system is too large then it will be cycling on and off far more times than a properly sized unit would do.
A larger unit will certainly cost much more than a smaller unit. By purchasing the unit that is the correct size for your home you will have a large initial savings of money. And since we have already shown you that a large AC will often wear out faster you will be saving in the long-run as well.
Before you purchase any central air conditioning system you should talk to a professional HVAC company that can help you to determine the proper size for your situation. Although big seems like a good idea it is important to remember that bigger is not always better.
